Eye Shadow Tips

Eyeshadows are certainly eye catching. It is fun to experiment with eye shadows, eye liners, pencils, paints, and powders but most women just want to know what is right for them. Too much added color distracts from your eyes, even if it matches your eye color. Choosing your eye shadows to match your lifestyle is a smart idea. There are so many makeup tips and warnings as to how to use your eye shadows.

Be careful with your colors, although you may think blue eye shadow will bring out the blue in your eyes, many shades of blue will actually have the opposite effect. Using eye liner and eye pencils can highlight the sparkle in your eyes. Neutral eye shadows are the best and by neutral I mean soft colors found in skin, browns, vanillas, mauves, beiges or in the subtle undertones of the skin, golds, olives, pale purples, blues, and grays. Neutral eye shadows are easy to work with because they meld well with one another and naturally compliment your skin tone.

A few simple techniques using paints, powders, or an eye pencil can affect the look and shape of your eyes. To make your eyes look closer together apply a light or medium neutral shade of eye shadow on the inner corner of your eyelids. Use eyeliner to draw the line a bit thicker on the inner corner of the eye and stop the line where the outer corner of the eye stops. Applying eye shadows to make your eyes look farther apart is a bit tricker. Tip application begins with a matte shadow in a darker shade stroking it outward and upward on the outer corners of the top and bottom lids. Make it slightly thicker toward the outer edge and extend it in a slightly upward curve.

Eye shadows come in creams, powders, and pencils. Creams are the hardest to control, they can look beautiful but tend to slip into the creases on your lids. Powder is great because you can use it either wet or dry and often make the eyes look softer, more natural. Take care of your beautiful eyes, try out different shades of eye shadows and practice some of the techniques.

Brows That say WOW!

Ever wondered what makes Demi Moore look like a drop dead bombshell? Just shift your gaze neck upwards and the answer will bounce back. Yes, the petite lady has exquisitely carved eye brows that make her look great.

Most of us tend to ignore eyebrows and allow them to grow into unmanageable bushes. But did you know that eyebrows too need grooming? Here is how you can get the near-perfect pair:

To redefine brows, use a sharp eyebrow pencil. Brush the brows into shape and then make short feathery strokes following the direction of hair growth. Avoid harsh black lines.

Making your eyes look Bigger

Remember, light tones protrude, so you want to bring light to your eyes. Stroke a neutral shadow in a light shade in the crease of your lid above your iris. If you want color, stroke the neutral on first-bone, vanilla, taupe-and then layer the color on top. It lights up the eye as if there were a lightbulb behind the lid. Or stroke a light color on the lids, with a darker color in the crease and along the upper and lower lash lines. Or use eyeliner to follow the natural shape of the eye and draw a fine line at the base of the upper and lower lashes to give your eyes more definition.

Making your eyes look more oval
Draw a fine line at the base of the lashes. Thicken it slightly in the middle of the lid, and draw it toward the outer corner to make your eyes appear more oval.

Making your eyes look more round

Put eye shadow all around the edges of the upper and lower lids to make your eyes look rounder. Or use eyeliner to outline the eyes at the base of the lashes. As you move toward the outer corner, thicken and "wing" the line upward ever so slightly.

Making your eyes look more farther apart

Take a matte shadow in a darker shade and stroke it outward and slightly upward, on the outer corners of the top and bottom lids. Or use eyeliner and start the line just a bit away from the inner corner of your eye. Make it slightly thicker toward the outer edge and extend it in a slightly upward curve.

Foundation Applying Tips

Mascara

Mascara opens up your eyes and lets the world see in. The eyes have it and mascara is the perfect solution after adding eye makeup, to bringing out the inner sparkle of your eyes. There are two basic types of mascara, waterproof and regular and unless you cry a lot or are in the water constantly try to stick with the normal mascara because water proof mascaras can be difficult to remove.

Most women wear black mascara because it looks sophisticated and works well on almost anyone. For a more natural eye makeup look the best shade is brown. Blue mascara really brings out blue eyes and looks drop dead beautiful on fair skin. If any mascara is too dark for your lashes, try clear mascara for a subtly enhanced look. Bringing out the best features in your eyes requires the application of eye liners, mascaras & lash curlers.

For the best mascara application always apply mascara in a stationary position. Never apply make up on a bus or in a car because if you poke yourself you can scratch your cornea. Mascara is easily contaminated by bacteria which you definately don't want in your eyes. Discard mascara after four months use or when it begins to get dried out or clumpy.

If you want to give your eyes a more open, wide-awake look, you may want to curl your eyelashes with a eyelash curler. Curl your lashes before you apply your mascara and avoid curling your lower lashes because they are more vulnerable. Mascara is a key step in a perfect makeover and allows your eyes to make a bigger impact on your overall look. It is smart to stick to your favourite mascara but you might be missing out on a wonderful new product if you don't try experimenting from time to time.
